So … we are at war.
As I write this on Sunday morning, the orange occupant of the White House and the inebriated weekend Fox anchor decided to drop bombs on nuclear sites in Iran on Saturday.
Sites that would have been monitored if the First Felon of White House hadn't torn up the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action in his first term. It took 2 years for President Obama, Sec. Kerry and China, Russia, United Kingdom, France, Germany and the European Union to secure the deal to keep Iran from having nuclear warheads.
And it took no time for the Toddler-in-Chief to tear it up.
Was the deal perfect? Most likely not. No accord is. Compromise means that no one is completely happy. But it did allow for surprise inspections along with regular visits.
But Don the Con didn't like it so here we are.
Am I scared?
Yes.
Yes, I am.
I have heard the horrors of what World War 3 might look like for decades. I always thought that our past presidents lived in fear of nuclear war. But unfortunately, Dementated Donnie is all about the shock and awe of mushroom clouds.
When I was a teenager, I found a couple of books in a box … Thirty Seconds over Toyko and Hiroshima. I was never the same after reading them.
They scarred me.
I only wish Congress would have read them. Maybe then, they would condemn this unconstitutional action of horror.
Until then …. I will pray for peace and wisdom. And hope to God, impeachment procedures will begin soon.
Hopefully, third time is a charm.
Impeach.
Convict.
Remove.
Repeat.
Anxiety meds …. Finding the right balance of medication has been always bit of a struggle for me. And if I can stay feeling “safe”, I do quite well without medication.
So I find alternative methods … the rhythmic movement of knitting or strangling weeds by the neck. Both have successful results in most situations … and I either get a sweater or tomatoes.
It is really hot. And it looks like it is going to stay that way for awhile.
I had been working on this ….
But this lovely beast of a sweater is much too hot to knit on without air conditioning.
I have started a sleeve … and if it cools down, I will work on it.
Until then, I am working on a pair of socks.
I am also working on some new plans. I was gifted this beautiful woolen-spun Donegal tweed wool.
I have enough for a simple pullover. But this yarn is nice and round and will make beautiful cables.
So I am looking at one of these slipovers/vests.
This is Emery by Joji Locatelli. Again with another pattern by Joji.
And the back …
Just looking at the pictures … not the measurements … I may have to add a half diamond twists.
Then there is the Hayley.
This is the Hayley sweater.
It has to be the vest because of yarn limitations.
Not sure what I will do … but it's nice to dream.
Bookin’ it …. YIKES!!! All my Libby holds are coming all at once!
So here is what I will be busy listening to this week.
First up is The Book Club for Troubled Women by Marie Bostwick
I just finished an earlier book of hers … A Single Thread. It's a book about small New England town, starting over and a quilt shop. A cozy novel.
But I have heard so much good about her latest … it is up first.
Then I have The Silent Patient.
From what I understand, not cozy. But a psychological thriller may be what I need.
After The Silent Patient will be the one I am most excited about. Fredrick Backman's latest, My Friends.
I just love his books. His characters are so quirky and weird and delightful. And the stories often weave in and out of each other.
Not a series … but characters and locations reappear. I have waited for this one for a long time.
And finally, the bottom of my list is by Sally Rooney.
Reviews have been all over the place on this 2021 novel about friendship. I am either going to excited about it or it will into the DNF pile.
And to wrap this up for today …
How dare I …. Ever since the golden escalator, anyone that doesn't agree with the Cheeto Bendito has been declared to be a criminal, idiot and/or unpatriotic.
But as Teddy Roosevelt said ….
So in that vein … please join me on Saturday July 5th at the MLK Park on Brady Street in Davenport. My friend Joanie has been working on this event and it will be great!
And I am going to wear as much red, white and blue as possible.
And if it is cold enough … maybe these socks.
They will have red heels and toes. Maybe I can click them together and declare that I am no longer in Iowa.
I have so much more to tell you! But I have to wrap this up.
If you enjoy my writings and want to support the farm, stop by our FarmHers Market on Wednesdays from 4 to 7, attend one of our future concert events or you can always buy me a coffee.
See? I do have more to say!
I will talk to you later.
