Whew!!!
What a week! Remind me not to do this to myself.
This week …
I made 5 different jams and baked bread.
I lunched with friends.
We had our first FarmHer's Market.
We distributed 125 Blossom Boxes.
And I hosted a wedding.
I did not clean my house.
You need to remind me of this week. And I will ignore you and say … It's not a big deal. I can do that.
I am not sure that I can. I do know I struggle to remember that I am no longer 40. Actually, I do more now than I did when I was 40!
I just hurt more.
But …. I survived the week.
Once … a neighbor informed me that she never took on more than she could do well. It was a slam to my garden that needed weeding, a porch that had too many cobwebs and a clothesline full of towels … that had been there a day or two!
That statement really bothered me. And still does as it is etched deeply in my memory.
It made me feel incompetent. Lazy. Unmotivated and unproductive.
And then … as her statement twisted around in my brain … I wondered do I know how much I can do until I try??
When do I reach my limit?
Do we know where the finish line is? And why does everything have to be done well? How about good or mediocre ….. does perfection always have to be the goal?
I love my quiet time. A good book. A glass of wine with friends. A morning full of laughter and coffee. The click of knitting needles with the purring cats.
But sometimes …. you just have to do something that scares the shit out of you.
IYKYK 😉
FarmHer's on the farm … We had a great turnout for our very first FarmHer's Market.
The farm will be filled with farm goodness EVERY Wednesday from 4 to 7.
Last week we had four vendors and Friends of Donahue as our guest non-profit group.
This Wednesday, we will have six vendors including Christy.
Christy will bring some dahlias tubers that have been graded and are ready to be planted in your yard.
Christy will be here this Wednesday only. And she says the tubers are priced to sell.
We had a lot of fun.
Brandi sold out of …. EVERYTHING!
Corinne had a run on dryer balls.
Connie sold eggs …. and more eggs. I just enjoyed the day and hugged my friends.
Come and see us … on a hill outside of Donahue. Bring lunch and dine in the cornzebo.
I hope you enjoy it.
Picture this …. It is photoshoot season. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I love seeing the farm from the photographer's eyes.
Like this one ….
You can rent the farm for photoshoots. The sunset views are amazing!
I love my bright yellow fences! They match my tulips!
To rent the farm … just send me a message. For a single photoshoot, (seniors, engagement, family) you get up to two hours for $50.
Bookin’ it ….. I had a couple of easy reads this week.
I finished the JoJo Moyes series … Me Before You … with reading the final installment Still Me. The story of Louisa Clark was an easy but very likeable read.
Not as light as a “beach read” but she is such a pleasant character with an ordinary but very quirky life.
The three books … Me Before You, After You and Still Me …. are a well-written series. Not earth shattering .. it's a good series to read when you can't find anything else.
I also read MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin's The Quiche of Death.
I loved the BBC series. But the vision of Agatha Raisin that Penelope Keith's narration created left me cold … she was so unlikeable.
I rarely think a movie/TV show is better than a book. This time, I will stay with the BBC.
Finally … it has been a very tough week here in America. The masked, unmarked ICE agents are creating absolute fear/chaos in the immigrant communities.
I have no words for what is happening. I never could imagine these actions here in America. Mothers and fathers are being disappeared.
This happened with Pol Pot in Cambodia, Stalin in Russia and Hitler in Nazi Germany.
And now … it is Kristi Noem. Also a killer of dogs. With a strong physical resemblance to Cruella De Vil.
This is not the America I learned about in school. Nor is it the Christianity, I was taught about in church.
It's been a long week for me. And I have been neglectful in letting my elected officials my views of the cruelty of ripping children out of mother's arms.
But this week, I will be back making phone calls. I ask you to do the same. Use 5calls.org to make it easy.
I will leave you with once last view of the farm courtesy of Brooke Baker Photography.
I will talk you later.

The cranberry pear jam is so delicious! And the oatmeal creme pies were a hit with Mom. Sadly, I have commencement Wednesday so will miss out on dahlia tubers. My dad used to grow dinner plate dahlias! Someday I'll have them in my garden.
And I'll be back! I'm looking forward to more things in bloom so I can offer the farm as another location for photos as I transition to full time photography. Keep making those calls! And did you hear? Rob Sand is running for governor!!
I appreciate you and all your vendors.
LOVE your yellow fences! and yellow accessories! (is accessories a proper farm term?)
The rainbow last week was beautiful!
I've been working on my internal messaging... for awhile...I'm an 80% girl. If I start with a goal of 80% of anything, its better than tying myself up trying to be "perfect" and meet some others' goals - some of which I'll never reach. sometimes when I go for 80% I hit 90%! and other times maybe only 50% - BUT its better than nothing being done. and even 50% of weeding in my yard is a Great start! Cheers to 80% goals!
Corrine's cat nip toy was a great hit with my cat. Its now, of course, awol. So I may need to buy a second ;-)
political activism - in a recent visit to senator Ernest's Davenport office - her office person said they count postcards & topics. so the friend & I who went & talked to him - went directly to the post office afterwards. one can still buy postcards with postage imprinted for only a few cents more. think it was 6cents - totally worth it to me. postcards are more effort than emails - but carries more weight!
Cheers to a balanced life!
