May Day! May Day!
It is May and suddenly the Pagan celebration on first day of the 5th month of flowers and may poles has taken another meaning.
It is another week of distress and I feel like we need to be rescued. I am screaming May Day.
This week, Republicans Representatives in the House voted against preventing ICE to deport American citizens.
Tariffs are expected to begin to affect store shelves soon with shortages and prices will be rising. Because we (the consumer) pay the tariff … not the exporting country.
The 47th President threatened to remove tax status of Harvard.
He also is unsure if Americans are entitled to due process. Wow. He has had due process for all his indictments but we can get thrown in prison without a trial???
Yes, I know this is just the DC Clown vomiting absurd ideas but no President has ever suggesting throwing out the Bill of Rights.
I have been neglectful with my daily phone calls and emails but I have made calls about defunding NPR/PBS.
But … I have been trying to build community and offer a safe space here on the farm. That is why we started the tiny FarmHers Market …. a place where you can get fresh, locally grown food and merchandise. A place where everyone is welcome.
As they say …. Where everyone knows your name. 😉
This week …. Okay. Once I tell you about our week, you will understand my request for absolute privacy next Sunday!!!
I will not be showering. I will not be crawling out of bed. I will be hiding from all society.
Wednesday is our first FarmHer Market from 4 to 7. We will have 5 vendors this week. This is a quick overview of products we will have.
Crosswinds Farm will have hands-spun, hand-dyed yarn, dryer balls, soap and the coolest garden fertilizer made from wool pellets. Ask Corinne about this … this is truly a waste not, want not product that uses wool that is not sweater worthy and usually is discarded.
Baked by Brandy will have sourdough bread and cookies. She has been baking rhubarb pies and rhubarb crisp. Let's hope her rhubarb patch can keep up!
Prairie Belle Flowers will have super fresh EGGS!!! She may also have some salad greens and rhubarb. Connie has been growing heirloom tomatoes seedlings, too. Soon you will be able to buy her floral arrangements.
Miss Effie’s has been trying to fill the jam cupboard. Hopefully, I can get some Bluebarb Jam made. I will also have a very few loaves of Asiago Bread, some house plants, and a few herbs. Especially chocolate mint. 'Nuff said. 🤣
I am excited to host Friends of Donahue. They are a great non-profit that does so much good for our little community. Sarah will have merchandise that supports their current projects. Last year, they built a cornzebo!!! Stop at the park to check it out.
Blossom Box Pickup…. It is time!!!!
Pick up is Friday from 9 to 5. I can be flexible with time but you must contact me.
Saturday 's hours are 9 to 2. We must be done by 2 as we are hosting a wedding at 3pm.
If you do not pick up your box on Friday or Saturday, you must arrange a time. Any box that is not picked up by close of day on Monday will be sold and no refund issued.
There are 125 boxes. We are all adults. You know your responsibilities. So don’t expect a reminder email or call.
I hate saying that but I learned that from past experiences.
Growing …. The farm is not open yet for you-pick but I am very happy with its progress.
One of my goals this year is to make sure there is color everywhere on the farm. So we have been filling perennial beds with snapdragons, zinnias, salvia and rudbeckia.
We have done very little mulching but that will be coming very soon. That is always a project.
Turning the page …. My Libby app has been smokin’ this week in the garden.
I finished the 6th book in the Louise Penny Inspector Gamache series …. Bury Your Dead.
I loved this book. It wrapped up all the loose ends of the last 5 books. I think this was the best book yet in the series.
I have The Hangman on hold. It is not book 7, but book 6.5. I have never read a half a book before. But there is always a first time! 🤣
Next one up was Astor by Anderson Cooper and Katherine Howe.
Read by Anderson Cooper, it is the multi-generational story of John Jacob Astor and his descendents.
I like the historical genre of Guilded Age families. It's the era of ostentatious homes and unfettered wealth. At points in this book, Cooper blends the past with the present oligarchs to show us how history repeats itself.
And finally …. OMG!!!!!! This psychological thriller twisted and turned. And I was shocked where it went.
I have read other books of this writing duo …. An Anonymous Girl and The Wife Between Us. Both were good reads but this has been my favorite.
That is all for today.
I will talk to you later.
